The Khan Al-Saboun or the Soap Khan has a story worth hearing. Did you know that it was originally a military quarters? Fascinating isn’t it? now that I got your attention, let us further discuss about the former military quarters turned to soap khan. It was strategically built in the center of the city to prevent any civil disobedience from ever starting. It is complete with sturdy outer walls and holes for arrows for attacking and defending.

For quite some time, the fortress was occupied byt Fakhr-ed-Din’s army. However, this was just for a short time. Soon after, the army left the barracks. In the succeeding years, no one used this building in Tripoli. Concerned citizens in Tripoli took pity of the building. Majority thought that the building will go to waste if not used. So they sent in a petition to convert the barracks into a soap factory.

From then on up to present time, the soap factory functions as warehouse and factory for makers of soap. Don’t you think this is an interesting story?
