Tripoli – Soap Khan Backgrounder

the Khan Al-Saboun that we all know now is formerly a quarters used by military. It was strategically placed in the heart of the city to prevent or thwart any uprising. It stands tall with durable walls. In addition, it has cracks where soldiers can shoot their arrows or attacking enemies. It has benches where guards can sit down and await intruders.

The army of Fakhr-ed Din used the quarters for quite some time. After some time, they left the quarters. After that time, no one else occupied that place. The inhabitants of Tripoli found this to be such a waste. They thought, “Why let it rot when it can be used for something good?” Because of this thought, they came up with a proposition to resurrect the old place and turn it into the soap khan that we know now.

Since then, the soap factory houses he soap’s factory and storage areas. The world now knows this place to be selling fragrant bars of soap instead of its deadly and scary past. Actually, this is partly why this place is famous. Its background made it so interesting that many foreigners come and visit Tripoli.
